Our research is focused on the understanding of the structure and function of proteins. Within this field, marine organisms are studied with the aim to search for bioactive substances which may be used as potential drugs in the pharmaceutical industry.

We carry out studies of biomineralization occurring in marine sponges and sea stars, with the purpose of understanding the molecular bases of this process.

Within the Marine Biology topic, research on new biochemical techniques for the isolation and purification of proteins and enzymes of marine organisms is underway. Likewise, studies on the structural determination and conformational changes of proteins in solution, employing spectroscopic techniques, such as circular dichroism, nuclear magnetic resonance, differential spectroscopy in ultraviolet and high resolution mass spectrometry.
