RESUME

Dr. Rodríguez-Romero received her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the UAM-I in 1991, specializing in Protein Crystallography. She spent one year (95-96) at the Center for Advanced Research in Biotechnology, NIST, Maryland, USA as Guest Researcher. She joined the staff of the Chemistry Institute in 1986 receiving funds for her research from CONACyT and DGAPA-UNAM. Ph.D. students and postdoctoral positions are available in her group.

RESEARCH PROJECTS

Our research focuses on the study of the relationships among protein structure, protein stability and function. Our specific approach is to use X-ray diffraction, spectroscopic and calorimetric techniques in biochemical and biological studies of proteins and some complexes of interest, including protein-protein and protein-carbohydrate interactions. In the past three years our work has been concentrated in four distinct areas:

  • Contact allergens from Hevea brasiliensis
  • Hydrolytic enzymes from plants, and marine organisms and enzymes from parasites
  • Anti-peptide and anti-receptor antibodies
  • Lectin-carbohydrate interactions.
